we (my boss cy - he's batman, i'm robin kinda boss - and i) made a quick 2-night trip up to seattle to meet our database team. we stayed in a swanky hotel and i only packed one small briefcase (which i was quite proud of myself for). we have been talking to these guys, especially jesse, the head of the company, everyday since i've been around at least (mid-june, i think they first started working together in the beginning of the year) but this is the first time we all met. we were shocked to find out jesse was only 22 - we all kinda thought he was in his thirties - but it was a nice surprise to have someone my own age to show us the city. cy is about 26 so it was a young crew. we took them out to dinner both nights and they showed us not only our database servers-- nerd alert! -- but some of the seattle sights. the first starbucks had a kentucky bluegrass band playing outside, which i found amusing (check out the original logo), they were throwing fish at pike's place and we lucked out and got sun the whole trip. seattle is kind of a strange place, in that it is really clean, covered in trees but totally industrial and overall normal-seeming. i think with the rain around it would be a little more like i had imagined it - grey and angsty (or maybe that's just nirvana i'm thinking of...). final thoughts: work trips are sweeeet. i hope for many to come. post-script: not a work trip, a business trip. thanks mom. i could not for the life of me remember the term and i knew it wasn't quite right.
